Traffic Sources Available (v1)
See which channels your visitors come from — and which source converts best, parsed and grouped for you from the referrer and UTM parameters.
Where in the dashboard
Traffic — with two tables:
- Sources — each traffic source with sessions, conversion rate, avg. duration and avg. frustration.
- Campaigns — your UTM campaigns per
(campaign, source, medium)tuple. Click a campaign for its detail sessions (max. 200, newest first).
Core concept
Every session is classified server-side at ingest into exactly one of six categories — from the referrer and the UTM parameters, with nothing for you to tag:
- Organic — the referrer is a known search engine.
- Paid — a UTM medium like
cpc,ppc,displayorpaid. - Social — the referrer is a social network (or
utm_medium=social). - Email — a UTM medium such as
emailornewsletter. - Referral — a referrer that is neither search nor social.
- Direct — no referrer and no UTM (internal navigation from your own domain also counts as direct).
The rules apply in a fixed order, first match wins: an explicit UTM marker always beats the referrer. Each classification is stored with a version tag, and the logic is forward-only — historical sessions stay reproducibly classified even as the rules grow later.
Campaigns & health
The conversion rate comes from your site’s primary funnel; if none is set, the column stays empty and a notice points you to funnel selection. A rule-based health engine compares each source against the session-weighted average and flags the notable ones — high traffic with weak conversion, small sources with strong conversion (a scaling candidate), or above-average bounce. One click adopts the source as a filter, so you jump straight to the matching sessions.
